Derrick Hogan Jr is an actor, producer, and writer born and raised in San Francisco, CA. He got bit by the acting bug at the age of 8 years old when he started acting in productions put on by his church. From there he continued exploring his love for acting by taking honors theater courses at John Swett High School which continued throughout college. He then enrolled at Contra Costa College where he played collegiate football. He received his AA Degree in Liberal Arts: Arts & Humanities. Next, he was fortunate to receive a football scholarship to private 4 year university, Sterling College located in the heart of Kansas. His life then consisted of God, football, and his first love: theater. There he majored in Theatre with an Emphasis in Performance and minored in Economics and Finance and graduated in 2017. Upon graduating he began auditioning in the Bay Area and Los Angeles, and taking on small projects in the Bay Area to hone his skills as an actor. He was later blessed to audition and get the role of “Officer Andrew” in the award winning project Kendrick, and then he later grabbed the role of “Tommy Kirkland” in the hit Tubi Series Reckless Behavior Season 2.
Derrick continued his acting education at The Meisner Technique Studio San Francisco where he studied directly under Jim Jarrett. Sanford Meisner last teaching protege. Then studied with multi-award winning casting director Mark Teschner who has been casting at ABC’s Daytime General Hospital . And the piece of advice he took from Mark was, “Make your own content. The world we live in, you are capable of paving your own success.” After Mark made that statement Derrick Hogan Jr went on to begin creating his own content. Completing two feature screenplays and two shorts. His film “Greetings From St. Helena” is a short he co-wrote with award winning director Alba Roland Mejia. They are in pre-production of his very first project starring himself and leading actress and popular social media influencer Jasmine Corley.
